Question: Control bar upgrade
Can I buy the 2007 Powerdrive 121 bar and put it in my 2006 Switchblade 1 kite? I really like the features of the new ’07 Powerdrive 121 bar.
The bridle configuration on your 2006 Switchblade 1 is NOT compatible with the 2007 PD121 control system. If you need a new control system you will need to purchase the PD221. The bridal on your kite is set up for a 221 (pulley) bar. Flying that kite on anything else is NOT recommended. Take a close look at the PD 221 (pulley bar). You’ll notice it has the exactly the same features as the PD 121. The only difference being that the 221 has pulleys on the bar.
Question: diferences between CROSSBOW 2006 and CROSSBOW 2007
I need to know somes diferences between model´s crossbow year 2006 and 2007.-
There are several differences between the '06 and '07 model Crossbows. Here are the main ones that you'd most likely notice upon flying the two kites. The new 2007 Xbow 2 is equipped with our SPRINT single point inflation system which makes rigging and derigging so simple, you'll never want to blow up an old kite without it again. The new version also features our upgraded control system with completely new reduced diameter, totally round, ultra soft grip. It's also equipped with the new override safety system with adjustable tension ring which makes the release load completely adjustable based on rider preference. The kite itself feels smoother though the air and more stable, thanks in part to a redesigned bridle configuration. This means the kite is less prone to inversion and also provides lighter bar pressure at the same time.
Question: Pulley modification for 2008 XBOW3 and Contra 3?
I've heard that there is a modification that can be made to my 2008 Cabrinha XBOW3 and Contra 3 that make my kites turn faster. Is this true? If there is, can you please send me some directions on how to do it?
There is a simple modification which can be made to your existing quiver of 2008 Cabrinha Xbows and Contras. The instructions are listed below. Please note that this is a simple change to your kites overall handling. Depower, windrange and safety are all not affected by doing this. It will increase turning speed and lessen bar pressure. We have riders that are preferring the kites in "stock" mode. So just keep these instuctions handy in case you ever want to reverse it.

Question: 2009 switchblade pulleys
I have recently purchased 2 x 2009 switchblades from kingof watersports in the UK. On both kites the pulleys are very stiff. Is this okay or do I have a problem, I am assuming they should spin freely?
The pulleys are designed for smooth operation and long life when inspected and maintained on a regular basis. Basically, then should be checked and cleaned before each session to ensure that they are free of any sand or debris and that they spin freely.
Run a finger over the pulley wheel to see if it working properly. If it feels sticky or appears to jammed up with sand, simply pinch the line around the wheel using your thumb and index finger. This way, you can "force" the wheel to rotate as you move the line back and forth. This should clear debris out and allow the pulley to function normally. Continue doing this until you feel that the pulley wheel is spinning freely without any binding. Be sure to check all pulleys prior to launching. Incorporating this as part of your normal rigging routine can help to maximize your enjoyment of each session on the water and only takes an additional minute or two.
Hope this information was helpful. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns regarding your Cabrinha gear.
How much lbs pressure should I give a 9m 2010 crossbow, 12m and 14m 2010 swtichblades, with an air compressor?
We don't recommend using a air compressor due to the extreme amount of pressure these machines can generate. It's very easy to over inflate a kite this way. Also, you may have noticed that we don't recommend a specific pressure in the user manual either (you read the manual - right?). We can tell you that we do test every kite prior to leaving our factory at a 450mb. This is the rough equivalent to 6.5psi. All kites are fully inflated and left to sit for an extended period of time. Please keep in mind that not all gauges are created equally. We've tested several models and most of them tend to give different readings. The best test for adequate air pressure that we recommend is described on page 12 of your 2010 SB user manual.
Question: my 5 m2 convert 2010 falls out of the air when I power him 100 % (bar against the chickenloop)
I (75 kg) have a problem with my new kite, 5 m2 convert 2010 (bar PD IDS 42). When I pull 100 % at the bar (fullpower)the kite often falls out of the air. Is there a problem with the lenght of the lines?
If the kite backstalls (flies backwards) in the water when fully sheeted into full power, then this is sign that the bar is out of tune. All 4 lines need to be exactly even at full power for optimum performance from kite in all conditions. Please refer to the following tech tip video for a more detailed explanation:
Question: need a replacement part
i need a replacement tube for one of my kite. it is a old one, 2003. do you have some, or one of a new kite will do?
These type of bladders have been discontinued many years ago. The inflation system that Cabrinha now uses is more streamlined and not compatible with your older kite. This SPRINT single point inflation system has been implemented in our kites since late 2006.
You best bet is to contact www.airtimekite.com for an aftermarket bladder. They will be able to assist you further in getting you the proper replacement.
Question: Using my 2010 IDS bar on a Switchblade 3
Is it suitable to use my 2010 ids switchblade 12m bar and lines with my switchblade 3 16m? purely for safety reasons.
IDS control bars are not compatible with non-IDS kites. The primary reason being that you have no way to flag the kite if needed. Activating the IDS landing line on your bar won't depower a non-IDS kite any more than simply sheeting out the bar. You need a kite with and IDS specific bridle to effectively flag the kite when load is transferred to the landing line.
A complete control system compatibility chart can be found here:
We hope this information helps. Please let us know if you have any further questions regarding any of your Cabrinha gear.
Question: Bar Compatibility 2012 with previous IDS kites
Is the 2012 bar compatible with 09/10/11 IDS kites?
All Cabrinha IDS control bars are compatible and interchangeable with all Cabrinha IDS equipped kites (2009 - 2012).
Question: do Cabrinha bars come with leashes?
Do the Cabrinha bars come with leashes? There is no description of a leash on the bar product page. Some leashes are hard to release, so I'd like to know about the leash I'd be getting if there is one, or where I get a leash if it doesn't come with one.
All Cabrinha bars do include a kite bypass leash when packaged as new from our factory. The release load on the leash is quite low and uses our same proven push away activation system as found on the primary QR of the harness loop. You can read more about it here in our user manual which is available as a free download.
Question: Kite deflating after 20 mins
After 20 mins in the water my kite starts deflating. I checked for any damage on the kite but it seems to be ok, could I be having problems with the valves or anything similar ??
Sounds like you've got a slow leak somewhere. First check that you still have the o-ring in the airlock valve. It's the round, black rubber washer that looks similar to the style found in a garden hose. It should be seated on the underside of the airlock valve. If you've lost it, the kite will slow leak without it. We provide 1 free replacement in the front pocket of all new kite bags (2011 and up) which is packaged with the user manual. If you do not have that anymore, you can purchase or special order replacements through your local dealer. Wrapping teflon plumbers tape once or twice around the threads prior to inflation is a solid temporary fix for now.
If the o-ring is still in place, it's possible you've got a slow leak in one of the bladders. This is usually due to a small pinhole in the bladder that was most likely caused by anything sharp (usually while rigging, packing away, self-launching, self-landing, etc.). To find out where the leak is coming from, fully inflate the kite. Tighten the airlock valve and pinch off all the SPRINT clips. Let the kite site for at least 20 or 30 minutes. The bladder with the leak will be the one that's soft. Watch the following video for all the details on bladder repair:
Question: Tube pressure
wich is the best pressure in psi for the Vector ?
We don't recommend a specific PSI for any of our kites since there are simply too many variables that can cause difference and confusion. Elevation differences at varying locations will affect what a pump gauge reads at. Also, many of those "free" pump gauges that are included with kite pumps have proven to be unreliable and in our testing. Plus most modern inflatable kites have a one way stopper valve in the leading edge. So pump gauge readings can more often be a mix of pressure in the hose over what's in the LE since any momentary stop in the flow of air allows the valve to shut on the airlock.
While all of our kites are tested to 450mB in our factory as part of the final inspection, we recommend using the method described in your user manual for the best and most consistent results. If you need another copy, user manuals are available here for free download:
Question: Controlbar Cabrinha Crossbow 2009 13m2
I have a Cabrinha Crossbow 2009 13m2 and i wonder if there is any of the new controlsystem that fits this kite.
All Cabrinha IDS equipped kites (2009 - 2013) are compatible with any Cabrinha IDS equipped control system also from 2009 -2013.
Question: Bar and lines crossover between kites.
I have a 2013 switchblade and I am looking at ordering your 2014 contra. Can I use the bar and lines that came with my switchblade for the contra or is it recommended to have dedicated lines for each Cabrinha kite?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this question has been answered before, I did not see it in the knowledge base.
Cabrinha IDS control bars are only compatible with Cabrinha IDS equipped kites. This cross compatibility covers 2009 - 2013. For 2014, we now use a single line flagging system with a low-v centerline split. All 2014 kites need the Overdrive 1X control system to fully function as intended. IDS control bars from any previous years are unfortunately not compatible.
Question: Overdrive Bar downward compatible?
Please just let us know if the Overdrive Bar is downward compatible.
BTW: Please bring back compatibility chart online.
It's possible to use the 2014 Overdrive bar on 2013 or older IDS equipped kites. While the 2014 Overdrive bar will fly and flag the kite out, the overall feel and performance of certain IDS kites might feel different than originally intended. The reasoning is the low-V centerline split. When using this setup on 2013 or older IDS kites (especially Switchblades), we've found that the kite tends to flatten out in the arc from the middle. This can sometimes cause unusual flaring since the arc is more open than it was designed to be. We felt that it did work just fine, just not quite as smooth as with an IDS bar. Again, it is possible to use a 2014 Overdrive bar on a 2013 or older IDS kite.Certain riders prefer it. We just found the performance wasn't quite as smooth as it was originally designed to be. The IDS control bars (e.g. 2013 IDS Quicklink) tend to work best for IDS equipped kites.
